Two years ago you could get one in good condition for around 15k-30k now low mile ones are peaking 80K

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

here's hagerty's value graph for a 76' GTB

Kinja'd!!!

But why are these cars rising so much?

are people realizing the death of el gated manuel and wanted a "cheap" fix causing the rise?

does one 308 have the location of the fountain of youth and everyone is trying to find it?

Or is it finally getting the classic treatment it deserves?

Fun fact: Every single even remotely desirable older car has suddenly started to skyrocket in price. It won't be long before 944's are going for as much as a new Corvette.

Tell me about it ;(

I cry every time I look at 308 prices

An 328 prices

And Countach prices

And 512TR prices

Serious question: do you think 308/328 values have peaked? Or is there still room to move?

I want a 328. But I feel like it's over priced and won't get any more value. But maybe it will?

Solution: 348

the 308 has always been the Ferrari i thought i would own sometime in the near future. Just because of the cheap price they had carried

Kinja'd!!!1

I don't think they've peaked yet just because they're a ferrari and people will always overpay for a name, but i don't think they're going to rise too much more because people will start too realize that paying 80k for a 308 is a bit crazy

I've thought of that! But everyone says it's a dog that's just as unreliable as the F355

Kinja'd!!!1

If they were faster it would be worth the money. But the 308 is not fast. 328 is a bit faster but still not fast.

Solution: TR

The regular TR is still priced well for what it is. The 512TR is already out of hand.

Step 1: disregard all plans to buy an R8

Step 2: sell/donate cars that you don't need (the beetle) to me

Step 3: acquire all white suit with white shoes

Step 4: get 512 TR

Step 5:???

Step 6: COCAINE

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > No Prius Needed

This is a great plan!

The only issue with Step 2 is that donating the beetle to you will make it impossible to get Step 1 or Step 4 done.

The beetle has retained value quite well. I keep putting more miles on it but the value isn't tanking. The 997.2 is still super popular.

Fuck them. Seriously. You only live once, the car is not made out of tissue paper, and it's a better vehicle than the 308 and its improvements ever were. They can be found easily for $40,000 in manual and in your choice of yellow, white, black, or red with ease. It's essentially the last manual-equipped, affordable Ferrari; people who have the means and are interested in owning such a vehicle would be wise to get it now, because they are already on the rise. The F355 is already approaching $90,000 (unless you want a Spider...boo, Spider!).

And, from FerrariChat:

Spark plug changes are easy with the engine in, but plugs last quite a while. Oil changes on the engine and transmission are easy except that the engine does sit pretty low if you're doing it without a lift. Clutch changes can be done at home without pulling the engine or the transmission. Brake pad changes are straightforward. All of the engine ignition and injection management is done through the Bosch Motronic control units, there is really nothing to adjust, it generally should start and run, hot and cold, with no particular issues. The climate control system can be a pain in the rear, with "a mind of it's own".

Followed by:

the fun factor of a Ferrari with an aftermarket exhaust is worth the cost.

They already are! That damn movie the Wolf of Wall Street has made the TR cool again!

Especially white ones. You have to pay like $150K for a clean low-mileage white TR. You can get a red 512TR for that price!

If I had the means, I'd have already have done it because they were even less expensive two, three years ago. We're talking $28,000 or so.

Really, I confess to living vicariously through you a little bit. You've mentioned before that you have the means to do something like this and are actively considering it, I'm just showing you my thought processes. I've been disappointed every time I done, or had done for me, the smart purchase. Finally got the ZR-1, which has had (and still has) far more problems in 5 months than the LT4 has had in three years (actually, it's entire life most likely), and I would do it again.

Also, there seems to be a little confusion on Oppo as to who I am, and it's making me feel dishonest. I'm a 24 year old college senior at on his last semester at George Mason University who has held odd jobs over the last few years to pay for this, that, and the other. I have a ZR-1 because I have what can only be described as the best parents on the world, who I am paying back on what can be considered an interest-free loan. I get such a nice vehicle because I have worked hard since age 3 (no lie, I've been in school since I was barely out of diapers) to keep my grades up, perform community service, help out at home, and drive safely.

And a good dream it was, I had it too. Oh well. The market will correct at some point. They're much too common, slow, idiosyncratic, and expensive to care for to justify a 6 figure price.

01/14/2015 at 20:15

Kinja'd!!!1

The 328 is the better car all around. Better built, better chassis, better engine management etc, which to some extent this justifies the price premium over the 308. The 308's value is in its beauty, as one of the purest forms Ferrari has ever put to metal (or fiberglass), not because it's particularly good at anything. Stock to stock, a good G-body 911 Carrera will beat one in almost every way, which is part of why they've seen a drastic price increase lately as well. I still want a 308 GTB though.

Seen what late '70's American cars are going for in good condition lately?

TR will be pricey, but it's also going to be worth far more than the 348 even further down the road, so it actually does turn into an investment if that means anything.

It'll also be stunning to just drive around. I would do so rain or shine (but probably not snow), just because it's a freaking TR. Just look at it, look at it! That's the Ferrari I grew up with. Bite me, flame surfacing!

Also, about this image:

Kinja'd!!!

It is from this lovely article at Car & Driver. Whacky, fun comparison test between C7 and TR. It makes no sense but fuggit, it's awesome.

P.S. Early TR is best TR. Black cladding FTW.

Agree on all fronts!

308 looks better

328 is better to drive and to maintain

I always wanted to add forced induction and a widebody kit to a 308 to make a poor man's 288 GTO. Turbo charging is damn near impossible because Ferrari had to turn the engine around to make it happen. But it's doable to super charge it

I'm not sure I'd consider me much an inspiration, just lucky. When I get my own place, then maybe. :p

As for the German cars, they rule in combining performance with comfort. From a technical standpoint, they are the best in every category including value. I wouldn't be too upset with that, because you got to enjoy some of the best engineering in the industry at a time in your life when that meant something to you, even if now you think you want something else out of your cars.

Seriously though stay on this path

I focused on buying real estate once I started my career. I put cars on the back burner

What ended up happening? My all time favorite childhood car (Countach) went through the roof and I lost a bunch of money on real estate. Had I bought a Countact in 2004 I would be soooo set right now.

The German cars are so damn usable. That's why it's hard to give them up.

Yeah, but to make it on my car I'd have to sell it. I don't wanna sell it, ever. Any other car can come and go, but the ZR-1 has to stay. I dunno how I'd make it in cars.

Also, I bet you were real pissed at banks for that housing market crash. And it's all starting again, because they didn't learn their lesson the first time. Actually, they did, and that's exactly why they are going to do it again: creating and bursting economic bubbles is profitable.

Definitely don't sell it. Never sell a rare car that's in good shape. Just work hard when you graduate and once you have the money to buy a house buy one with the biggest garage possible and also see if you can find one with a big backyard and RV access so that you can drive cars around the side and park them in the backyard (covered, of course!).

Yeah the stupid banks and federal reserve worked hand in hand to create that mess! So dumb.
